What is an anchor? How important is it to us?

September 6th, 2017 #coffeetalk

Good afternoon peeps!! I know it is later in the day today but after being on the road for hours today and getting work done, I have a couple of minutes to share something with you.

I got up this morning and was feeling pretty good, not great but good and needed a pick me up and all I had to do was look at this piece of art that my lovely mother-in-law made for me during her spare time this summer.

Now what do you see in this photo? I see an anchor with some pretty colors all around it like everyone else out there and it probably had a little to do with my Navy 10 year career as well but here is what I really see:

The definitions of anchor are what you would think with cables, ropes and chain links to hold a boat steady and stopping motion but the definition of anchor I want to talk about is:

A person or thing that can be relied on for support, stability, or security; mainstay.

This personifies who I want to be for my family and my friends and my tribe. I don’t even know if she knew how much it meant to me when she gave it to me. It is something I strive for every day and is one of my why’s that I have and why I am doing this.

So, reach out to your anchor today and let them know how much they mean to you. If you are someone else’s anchor, be proud and reach out to them to also let them know you care and will be there for them. If you don’t have a person as an anchor, find your saving grace you can lean in on as your anchor when the seas get rough and tumble.

Even if my mother in law didn’t mean to give it to me in this fashion, it still shows how much the smallest little things can do for other people.

Have a great rest of your day everybody.

  1. I have ALWAYS loved the concept of anchors, whether in our lives, or our weight management journeys. I think they rank right up there with our “whys.” And, like our “whys” or reasons for being on our weight management journeys can change, so can our anchors.

Right now, I’m looking for both, because my “why” has been resolved to the best degree that it can be resolved, and those things that were my anchors, are no longer providing that secure mooring they once did.

So, let’s hear it for anchors, whether they be picture, places, things, or people!

Long may they keep us secure!

  2. I have many anchors in my life. My husband who supports me and buys healthy food for me when he does the shopping. My niece who is also on this weight watchers journey with me. My Zumba buddies who are always commenting on my weight loss. My neighbors and friends who see me and comment that I am withering away LOL. I love them all and they are my anchors. ⚓️
