Do your detractors outweigh your additions?

Top ‘o the morning to all of you out there, I hope this finds you in good health and feeling good about the fact that this is a Friday and it just always seems better when it is Friday doesn’t it?  I have my 30oz. roughneck mug in hand with a splash of sugar-free sweet italian cream creamer that is just sweet enough to add some flavor to the coffee.

Yesterday as I got home I was knocking out our budget and re-calibrating our funds to make sure that we were in a good place and ready to go for the second half of the year and I started to look at the things that are holding us back or “that we don’t need” and the things that added value to our lives that I felt that we couldn’t do without.  Now many of us do this with our finances all the time but how often do you do it with your health?

How many things hold you back from achieving your goals and your aspirations when it comes to your health?  Do you have things that you keep in the house that will derail you when times are getting tough when it comes to unhealthy foods?  Do you have friends that are detractors and break you down in your health journey or try to sabotage your healthy eating because they think you are “too thin”?  Do you have a job that adds stress and does nothing to fulfill the need to add to the soul along with the heart?  Do you do volunteer work?  Do you want to do volunteer work but life detractors get in the way?

You can see where I am going with this.  You need to take inventory as you would your finances and look at what is holding you back.  But you need to be honest as well with it. You need to look at the barriers that are in place of where you want to go.

I know one of my biggest barriers is my thyroid.  Now this is a medical condition and I am on meds for the rest of my life because of it, but it is still a barrier and I need to make sure that what I am doing adds value to the situation and doesn’t take away, so I am seeing a food specialist and someone who can help me promote the need to take these meds and have it help me rather than detract from my journey.  Another barrier is a kid who is twelve and eats everything around him so we have to keep food around … now because we are healthy eating there are not a lot of sugary sweet snacks and bad foods but the fact that he eats all evening after he gets home triggers it in my mind that I need to as well.  So I need to be aware of that detractor.

So, look at your surroundings and take inventory of what is holding you back and do something about it (if you can) or come up with a plan of how to navigate through it and battle the head demons.  ALso accentuate the positives as well.  Who is on your corner?  Who is helping you along the way with encouragement and support?  You need to balance these things out and have the positives outweigh the negatives.  It is so important to your health and your mental health.

I hope this little exercise really helps … I know I need to do this often in my journey.

Have a great Friday!!
